Programma

LEGAL ENGLISH MODULE - SPEAKING CRITERIA

Accuracy	Pronunciation/Intonation	Communication skills
A Virtually no structural or grammatical errors other than native speaker type slips. Register always appropriate and choice of lexis accurate over a wide range of topics	A Pronunciation of all sounds accurate. Intonation only just detectably foreign over sustained stretches of speech. Could be taken for a native speaker initially.	A Highly effective in all contexts. Can interest and persuade and be as diplomatic or tactful as necessary. Would create a good impression in any professional context.
B Few mistakes in usage, often self corrected, none of which would impede understanding or irritate the listener. Adequate lexical resources to deal competently with all tasks	B All indiv. sounds correctly produced though may produce foreign stress patterns or intonation, however this does not interfere with communication.	B May use the occasional non-native turn of phrase, but is always clear and coherent. Able to argue a point and socialise with ease.
C Tense use and structure manipulation fairly accurate, but with some systematic or typical errors. Occasional use of strategies to cope with not knowing specific lexical items	C Some sounds may be slightly deviant but still recognisable. Intonation and stress not fully appropriate or controlled.	C Clear but not always appropriate in choice of exponent. May not always perceive the interlocutor's attitude or express own. Minor misunderstandings may occur.
